23 Nov JOM DIWALI WITH HOMELESS AND UNDERPRIVILEGED

KUALA LUMPUR, October 11, 2017

Among the wonderful things that make Malaysia beautiful are the multicultural festivals that take place every year.

One such annual event is Diwali, or Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights which on this year will fall on October 18.

To brighten this day for some of Kuala Lumpur’s less fortunate denizens, an open house, dubbed “JOM DIWALI”, is being held at one of the city’s homeless halfway houses, Pusat Transit Gelandangan.

It will be hosted on Deepavali Day itself, starting from 8.00am till 12.00pm, by student-volunteers from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (Unirazak) and KDU University College, along with volunteers comprising of private individuals.

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur Hotel will provide a feast of traditional Indian food while Gombak Food Delivery Prihatin will provide drinks.

“We expect some 250 people to attend, including the volunteers, the homeless denizens of Pusat Transit Gelandangan and underprivileged children from the Chow Kit area,” said Institut Onn Ja’afar (IOJ) CEO Charles Mohan.

IOJ, of which the patron is Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, has also held “JOM RAYA” for the Muslim celebration of Aidilfitri and “JOM CNY” for the Chinese New Year at the same place as part of its ongoing “JOM BEKPES” campaign which started in February 2016.

“JOM BEKPES is the brainchild of our patron and we serve up to 500 packs twice a month at four locations in Kuala Lumpur with the help of student-volunteers from different local private and public universities.

“This JOM DIWALI would not be possible without the help of our sponsors and the cooperation we received from the Federal Territories Ministry, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the management of Pusat Transit Gelandangan, and our partners in Yayasan Chow Kit,” added Charles.

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur has consistently sponsored the food for Malaysian festive season celebrations at Pusat Transit Gelandangan since Deepavali last year.

“Comfort, hospitality and quality are the hallmarks of PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur as anyone who steps through our doors will know. Our kitchens and restaurants also provide delicious food including multicultural local and western cuisines.

“So while our business is providing such services to our guests, we never hesitate to share what we can with the less fortunate because we believe that what you give, you get back multiple times over,” said PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur Marketing Communications Assistant Director Warren Fernandez.

This will be the second “JOM DIWALI” held at Pusat Transit Gelandangan which was set up by the Federal Territories Ministry as a one-stop centre for members of the public, government and non-government organisations, and companies to provide aid to the homeless.
