KUALA LUMPUR, January 10, 2018 – Over 200 primary students will receive school supplies through contributions by ILTIZAM, Ekuiti Nasional Berhad’s (Ekuinas) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme, and channeled by non-government organisation, Institut Onn Ja’afar (IOJ) to underprivileged children particularly in the Chow Kit area.

The contribution is part of the ILTIZAM “Back-to-School” programme which will benefit a total of over 16,000 children from more than 300 schools nationwide.

Ekuinas Director, Stakeholder Interests, Hizwani Hassan said the ILTIZAM “Back-to-School” programme was piloted last year to benefit more than 1,000 students across 10 states.

“ILTIZAM focuses on three pillars which are Entrepreneurship, Education and Community, with this programme falling under Community pillar focusing on helping those from under-served groups within society towards ensuring a sustainable future.

“Among the school supplies provided to the children are uniforms, shoes, socks, bags, and stationary. Our efforts to assist underprivileged children from across the country have been made possible thanks to our partners; Canggih, Al-Ikhsan Sports and Skuad Senyum,” said Hizwani.

He added that IOJ was selected due to its efforts last year which prioritised underprivileged children and its ties with other non-government organisations and institutions with a similar focus.

IOJ CEO Charles Mohan thanked ILTIZAM for their contributions and said the supplies would be going to children from Yayasan Chow Kit’s Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak (PAKK), Pusat Jagaan Baitul Amal (PJBA) and government-run Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK).

“IOJ will continue to focus on underprivileged children in 2018. We also held the Malaysians United Run 2017, on November 18 last year to raise funds for the education and care of 50 cases of underprivileged children for 2018.

“IOJ will be monitoring these cases and sharing updates from time to time in order to update stakeholders on how the funds are being channeled and on the efforts of our volunteers and committees from local private and public universities,” said Charles.
