YEAR OF THE PIG BRINGS JOY TO THE NEEDY
More than 200 guests went to Pusat Transit Gelandangan, Jalan Pahang, a temporary homeless shelter in Kuala Lumpur to enjoy ‘JOM CNY’, the celebration of Chinese New Year hosted by Institut Onn Ja’afar (IOJ) for the 4th year.
JOM CNY takes place on the first day of Chinese New Year itself, February 5th, from 8.30am till 11.00pm with the help of 20 volunteers from Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS). It started with volunteers decorating the venue to set the mood for Chinese New Year.
According to Institut Onn Ja’aafar (IOJ) Chief Executive Officer, Charles Mohan, ‘JOM CNY’ touches right at the heart of IOJ service to the community and the volunteers’ love reminds the needy that we care about them. We also hope JOM CNY will give festive cheer to as many homeless and vulnerable.
IOJ received help and the cooperation from the Federal Territories Ministry, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the management of Pusat Transit Gelandangan with Gombak Food Delivery Prihatin chipping in to provide drinks and cold treats.
IOJ has also held “JOM RAYA” for Aidilfitri and “JOM DIWALI” for Deepavali at the same place since February, 2016, as part of its ongoing “JOM BREAKFAST” morning soup kitchen campaign.
